Kawaii(可愛い)- Literally translated as ‘cute’ in Japanese, kawaii refers to a phenomenon centered around the celebration of all things delicate and infantile. Initially surfacing in 1970 and arguably reaching its zenith during the mid 1990’s, kawaii has been a part of the Japanese consciousness now for almost four decades.
